Overview

A senior PHP developer is a software engineer who specializes in developing web-based applications using PHP, one of the most popular scripting languages. They are responsible for writing clean, fast, and scalable PHP code that meets the requirements and specifications of the clients and the organization. They also troubleshoot, test, and maintain the core product software and databases, ensuring strong optimization and functionality. They work as part of a full-stack creative team that is involved in all phases of the software development life cycle.

Scope of Responsibilities

▸Write “clean”, well-designed PHP code that follows industry best practices
• Produce detailed specifications for the software projects
• Troubleshoot, test, and maintain the core product software and databases to ensure strong optimization and functionality
• Contribute to all phases of the development life cycle from design to deployment
• Develop and deploy new features to facilitate related procedures and tools if necessary
• Write PHP scripts to integrate with common third-party APIs (Google, Facebook, YouTube, etc.)
• Document and troubleshoot any PHP programming errors
• Support front-end developers by integrating their work with the application
• Coach and mentor junior developers
• Stay updated with new technologies and trends in web development

Skills and Qualifications

▸Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, engineering, information systems, or related field
• At least 5 years of proven software development experience in PHP
• Strong knowledge of PHP coding and web-based applications
• Proficient in using at least one PHP framework such as Symfony, Laravel, Code Igniter etc.
• Familiar with front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Good knowledge of relational databases, version control tools, and web services
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, analytical and organizational skills
• Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders across different levels and locations
• Passion for best design and coding practices and a desire to develop new bold ideas
